Her kiddo(s) is/are…Austin & Ethan
Her location is…Erie, PA

How old are you now and how old is/are your munchkin(s)?

I turned 23 two weeks ago. Austin turned 2 years old the day before my birthday and Ethan J is 14 months today!

If you could describe your child in 3 words, what would they be?

     Austin: intelligent, active, loving

Ethan: happy, outgoing…I’ll say loving again 🙂

What’s an average day like for you these days?

I’m most likely at home with my boys, just hanging out. I am fortunate to have to go to work very little. I teach two classes at a local school, and am able to do all of my prep/lesson planning/grading/etc. from home, so it only takes me out of the house about 8 hours a week.

We are involved in a playgroup and regulars at a few toddler activities at our library, but spend most of our time at home sweet home (and the nearby playground!). The boys love being outdoors, and we still try to get outside at least once a day now that winter is here. As they are getting older I am able to try more and more things with them and a new favorite is now playdough. Other than that they tend to just follow me around the house and “help” me cook and clean, or play together with some of their millions of toys.

If you had a day all to yourself (kid-free & lottery-financed), how would you spend it?

Honestly? I would probably just sleep and take a bath, order some food in and sleep some more! Stretch out all ALONE in my own bed *sigh* Maybe watch something besides Noggin! Maybe squeeze in some shopping since it’s not my money.

What would you say your parenting style is like?

Difficult to define! I feel that I borrow a lot from the ideas of attachment parenting, but I can identify with many other ideas as well. I am there for my children whenever possible in every sense. I try to respect them as people. As far as “discipline” I use only positive reinforcements, don’t use time outs, etc. and do my best not to raise my voice.

Above all I strive every day to be a wonderful mother. I do everything in my power to keep my kids safe, healthy and happy. I make sure they feel loved unconditionally and am teaching them to be loving individuals at the same time.

What do you feel you have enough of in life? What do you want more of? Less of?

I have enough…bills? LOL. I have enough of everything I suppose. I am truly blessed and very fortunate. I have been working hard to always be content with what I have.

I would LOVE more children, and less drama so we’ll see what happens!

How “blended” is your family? Are you still with the dad(s) of your kid(s)? Who has whose last name in the family?

I would say … not very blended. I am married to the father of both of my children. Although things between us are not picture perfect at the moment, we are in a relationship and working hard towards a healthy marriage. We truly love each other and he is a wonderful dad to the boys. Now if only he would grow up and get his shit together. Just kidding. Sort of. We all share the same last name.

What are some of your big pet peeves?

I have so many many many. I am a (slowly) recovering perfectionist/control freak so everything is a potential annoyance. Seriously, I won’t even start.
What are the most unique things about yourself?

Umm…nothing. I’m really not a very interesting person at all. The thing that’s most special about me is my children.

And finally, what’s your writing/blogging history and style?

I love to write. I started writing short stories, poems, etc. in grade school. I wrote for the school newspaper in high school/college and actually (don’t make fun of me!) didn’t mind writing book reports, research papers, essays, etc. It’s a hobby that I pretty much let go after leaving school for lack of time, but I have been blogging occassionally for about a year now. I don’t know that I have a writing “style.” I guess casual…I type as I think and it’s not always organized or logical or punctuated, etc.

Meet the bloggers: Mandi

Blogging Mommy is… Mandi
Her kiddo(s) is/are… Braxton and Kolden
Her location is… Ontario Canada

How old are you now and how old is/are your munchkin(s)?

I’m 22 (July 4th 1986) Braxton is 3 and a half (April 5th 2005) and Kolden is 1 and a half (April 17th 2007)

If you could describe your child in 3 words, what would they be?

Braxton : Relaxed, funny and sweet

Kolden: Wild, cheeky, and loving

What’s an average day like for you these days?

Well I work from home doing child care and selling avon. I do this so that I am able to be at home with my children and to me thatsthe most important to me. An average day for us is me getting up around 6am to do a work out before the boys get up. Once there up our morning is filled with some nice relaxing time, while I try and get some work done either with avon stuff or computer stuff. Then afternoons are usually when we do our activities and crafts which we do a lot of. The days just kind of flows from there.

If you had a day all to yourself (kid-free & lottery-financed), how would you spend it?

Probably a day at the spa followed by some shopping and then a night out with my girls!!

What would you say your parenting style is like?

I try to use more positive reinforcements, however with two toddlers in our house we do have a lot of time outs, it’s just a way of life haha. My over all goal with the boys is to raise them to be great men and fathers!

What do you feel you have enough of in life? What do you want more of? Less of?

I’m pretty happy with my life right now. I mean ofcourse we could always have more money hahaha but were still young and starting out. Financially right now everything is ok, but it would be nice that in the future we could have more money to be able to do more things with the boys.

Another baby some day is in the cards, not any time soon. The boys keep me busy enough and plus after having two unplanned pregnancies it would be nice to be married some day and have it come then.

How “blended” is your family? Are you still with the dad(s) of your kid(s)? Who has whose last name in the family?

My family is VERY blended. I am the birth mother to both of my children, however they have different birth fathers and neither of them are involved in their life’s. Braxtons dad and I dated all through out highschool but when I became pregnant at 18 he left us and we havent seen him since Braxton was about 9 months old. Koldens dad and I only dated for a short time, but ended our relationship when I was around 10 weeks pregnant because he was very controlling. Like Braxtons dad he isn’t involved in his life. We are however very lucky to have my boyfriend Jay in our lives. Jay and I have been good friends for over 5 years and began our relationship a year ago. He’s the “dad” in my boys lifes and were very happy!

The boys both have my last name, and when Jay and I get married were hopping to work something out with hyphenated names… some how lol

What are some of your big pet peeves?

big pet peeves, hummmm. I don’t really know… I guess it’s when people try and stereotype people. That really bothers me!!

What are the most unique things about yourself?

Oh wow, well I don’t know whats unique about myself… I mean I know I’m not cut from any cookie cutter. Well hummm I’m not even supposed to be alive haha. When I was born the doctors told my parents they gave me a year to live since I had so many complications and I’m still here today and very healthy!!!

And finally, what’s your writing/blogging history and style?

I’ve blogged before, pretty much on and off since I was pregnant with Braxton. I stick to everyday life as well as my weight loss path. So if your a young mommie from a VERY blended family, have toddlers or like me trying to get your body back I hope I can entertain/inform you!!

Blogging Mommy is… Kris
Her kiddo(s) is/are… Harmony & Avery
Her location is… Ottawa (Canada’s capital)

How old are you now and how old is/are your munchkin(s)?

I’m 28. My daughter is 10 and my son is about to turn 4.

If you could describe your child in 3 words, what would they be?

Harmony: intelligent, determined, complex

Avery: curious, busy!!, munchable

What’s an average day like for you these days?

Right now I’m on disability, so I’m just hanging out at home unless I’m at the Dr.s or at chiro. When I’m working, we all head out the door together early but then we all get home early too (around 4:30) which is nice. I try to keep on top with as much as I can around the house and have tons of online projects to keep my mind occupied!

If you had a day all to yourself (kid-free & lottery-financed), how would you spend it?

I don’t think there are any scrapbooking spas out there, so I would have to invent one and spend the day there once it’s built. 😛 I would sleep in just a bit, have breakfast in bed, then spend some time hanging out in the hottub, get a massage (a real one, not a treatment one), have lunch, do tons of scrapbooking with friends, then have a delicious dinner with my hubby and watch a movie together.

What would you say your parenting style is like?

Loving but firm. I did/do practice some components of Attachment Parenting (baby-wearing, extended nursing), but tend to be a little more strict.

What do you feel you have enough of in life? What do you want more of? Less of?

My little family is wonderful, I feel it’s complete for me. I’d wanted more kids and would love another two, but the two I have are blessings. I feel satisfied when it comes to our lifestyle – we don’t live extravagantly but we meet our needs without difficulty and get to enjoy the occasional treat. I want more space though, our house is very small. And I would like less pain, I have been struggling with off-and-on pain for 8 years (since my 1st car accident) and with near-constant pain for 8 months.

How “blended” is your family? Are you still with the dad(s) of your kid(s)? Who has whose last name in the family?

I was back-and-forth with my DD’s dad a few times before we broke it off for keeps. As a single mom, I dated a little, and eventually discovered the love of my life had been right there the whole time as my friend!! Paul and I got married when DD was 4 and went on to have a son of our own. Since I gave my daughter my last name, my husband took that name when we got married and then we gave it to our son.

What are some of your big pet peeves?

Bad drivers (since I’ve been hit twice by careless drivers)!!! Ignorance. And I reeeeeally hate it when people say “gender” when they mean “sex” (like finding out the sex of the baby halfway through the pregnancy, for example!)
What are the most unique things about yourself?

I’m a natural redhead, a good singer, and I’m not straight.
And finally, what’s your writing/blogging history and style?

I’ve been writing since I was a young kid (started churning out stories and novels before I hit 10) and have been keeping a diary since then as well. I started blogging around 2003. My writing style tends to lean towards the academic (hard to push those university-drilled-into-your-head habits to the side!), but I try not to be *too* boring or babbling. 😛

welcome! :)

November 28th, 2008

Welcome to the YM blogs…

Society seems to have a lot to say about teen pregnancy and young moms. Well guess what? We have some things we’d like to say back!

We’re more than a stereotype. Young moms can be great moms. We’re intelligent, we love our kids and want the best for them! We’re motivated to finish our educations. We’re responsible and can manage a home with amazing efficiency. We may come from all backgrounds and walks of life, but aren’t limited to stay in them. We have the potential to mobilize our resources and become anything we want to be.

The YM blogs will start out as a collective blog with several authors. Some of us are younger, some are older. Some of us are American and some are Canadian.  Some of us have partners and others are single moms. What we all have in common is that we are proud young mommies and we support each other!

We welcome comments and discussion in the YM Blogs, but please remember the YM Community Guidelines apply here as they do in any discussion area of the site (boards, groups, chats, etc.).
