Teen/Young Mom Tag

January 26th, 2015

Hey everyone!

Sorry I have been so MIA, life has been crazy and I hit writers block but I have a plan for a weekly blog for the next year! To get things started I’m doing the teen/young mom tag!

1. How old were you when you got pregnant?

I was 17 when I got pregnant, 18 when I became a mother.

2. What were your career plans before you got pregnant?

Before I got pregnant I wanted to be a teacher; since having my son I’ve realised this is not a realistic goal because there are no teaching jobs right now.

3. What are your career plans now?

I’m looking into a career in accounting.

4. Were you/are you with the baby’s father?

I was with my son’s father when I got pregnant but we broke up shortly after. We agreed that he wasn’t capable of being who my son needed him to be, he knew that I would be an amazing mom and could handle things while he took the time to grow up. So I filed for and won sole custody when my son was a few weeks old and have been doing it solo ever since.
5. Do you live with your parents?

We did live with my mom for the first 2 years but we’ve mostly been on our own since then.

6. What is the hardest part of being a “teen mom” aside from financial struggles?

The hardest part about being a young mom by far is not getting the time to find yourself, your teens and young adult life should be all about experiences : travelling, concerts, plays, education, dating, friends, family etc… Trying to juggle raising another human especially alone while discovering who you are, is nearly impossible.
7. Do you work?

I do! I’ve been blessed enough to have a job 30 hours a week, it allows me to be there to put my son on the bus and pick him up off the bus after school every day. I always dreamed of being a stay at home mom and my current job allows me to experience the best of both worlds!
8. How many friends do you have now compared to before?

We moved 5 hours away when my son was 2.5, before that I had a lot of friends with kids the same age as my son, now I have a few great friends who are supportive but I mostly see them on nights my son goes to my moms.
9. Is your family closer now because of your situation?

We were fairly close to begin with, but we actively try not to argue anymore because my son deserves to have a family who supports each other.
10. Do you wish you have waited/want other girls to be more careful?

This is a really hard question for me, I wasn’t on the best path when I got pregnant and having my son made me grow up and put my life back on track. If I could have learned the lessons I did when I learned them, and be able to have the same little boy just older and  in a more stable situation I would.  I would definitely encourage other girls to wait until they are in a stable situation with a supportive family and partner, an education, a job, a house and a car or two.
11. Name one misconception people have of most teen mothers?

People often assume we are irresponsible, I made one irresponsible decision that has led me to a lifetime of being incredibly responsible!
12. Do you think Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant glorifies teen parenthood?

I don’t think they glorify teen parenthood per say, but it is a television show and doesn’t portray life for all young parents. I certainly don’t have that much drama in my life.
13. How has your body changed from pregnancy?

Before I had my son I had a super metabolism, I could eat whatever I pleased and be super lazy and never gain a pound. That changed when I stopped breastfeeding, I’ve put on some weight but I just started working at getting my body back!

14. Do you plan to have more children? When?

I would love to, but only if I met the perfect guy and we were both ready for another child and I was sure my son wouldnt feel left out or replaced.
15. What is one thing you wish you knew before you got pregnant?

I wish I knew how hard being a single parent truly is, I wish I knew how hard I would struggle and that having a child the way I did has made my son miss out on things and it breaks my heart.

Her kiddo(s) is/are… Amber and Elizabeth

Her location is… Fort Walton Beach, FL

How old are you now and how old is/are your munchkin(s)?  I am 20 and Amber is 18 months old and Elizabeth is 2 months old

If you could describe your child in 3 words, what would they be? Amber is hyper, adorable, and sassy. Elizabeth is sleepy, quiet, and young.

What’s an average day like for you these days? I wake up. Feed Amber and Elizabeth and Myself. Then I turn on cartoons for Amber for like 30 mins even though she rarely pays attention to them. Then I start on the housework for the day and wait for the hubby to get off work. After that I get dinner, bathe the little ones, put them to bed and then its either time with the hubby or sleep time.

If you had a day all to yourself (kid-free & lottery-financed), how would you spend it?  SHOPPING SPREEEEE lol for me and the hubby. I never get to shop 🙁

What do you feel you have enough of in life? What do you want more of? Less of?

How “blended” is your family? Are you still with the dad(s) of your kid(s)? Who has whose last name in the family? I am still with the father of my children. We got married this past April and the kids have his last name, as do I.

What are some of your big pet peeves? People who stereotype me because I am a young mom and people who cause a lot of drama.

What are the most unique things about yourself?
I can honestly say I am still finding myself other than being a wife and mom so I’ll get back to you.

And finally, what’s your writing/blogging history and style? I am just starting to do this so I am just going to write what happens in life.

I feel like I have enough good people i n my life and I could use more me time lol but that wont happen for awhile haha. What would you say your parenting style is like? I’m pretty laid back about most things. I want her to learn and explore. If I know it is bad for her I wont let her do something or touch something otherwise the house is free to her.

Her kiddo(s) is/are… Aubrey

 Her location is… Huntington, Wv

How old are you now and how old is/are your munchkin(s)? I am 20 and Aubrey is 14 months 8/23/09

If you could describe your child in 3 words, what would they be? tiring, smart, beautiful

What’s an average day like for you these days? Right now I am in school M-F going to my local University. We typically wake up by 7am, Aubrey gets dropped off at daycare shortly after, and I go to my 8am classes. yuckk! I am a full time student so I’m there till about noon everyday. From noon- 3ish I get by homework done so I can spend lots of time with Aubrey when I pick her up at 330. Sean, my fiance, is a manager for the Marshall football team so he’s normally at the field until at least 8 or 9pm.

If you had a day all to yourself (kid-free & lottery-financed), how would you spend it?  I would definetly still be in school, school is very important to me and my family. but on the fun side of things I would definetly enjoy a HUGE shopping spree! my favv

What would you say your parenting style is like?
I’m pretty strict when it comes to certain things. I see many parents giving their little ones soda and greasy foods and I’m still not allowing that; she is still on milk and juice. But being the only child I’d say I probably spoil her a little more than I should.

What do you feel you have enough of in life? What do you want more of? Less of?
I think I have enough work in my life. I feel with school, parenting, and keeping my household clean I have something going on constantly. I could defintly use a free cleaning lady! lol

How “blended” is your family? Are you still with the dad(s) of your kid(s)? Who has whose last name in the family?
Sean is not Aubrey’s biological father. He has been there for me since I was one month pregnant though so I consider him to be more of a dad than her biological dad Ryan is. Ryan wanted nothing to do with me nor Aubrey during my pregnancy. Now he has her every Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon. He has gotten better but honestly I think she goes over there more for Ryans parents benefits rather than his own. But Sean is the best dad I could ever ask for and hopefully someday Aubrey will see the same thing I do. She even calls Sean “dada” now!

What are some of your big pet peeves? People who are rude when I’m ordering food. I once went to Starbucks and had the employee sit and stare at me for 3 whole minutes before saying a word to me. I guess she was waiting on me to say something, but its her job to ask me!

What are the most unique things about yourself?
I think I’m unique just by being a young responsible mom. I fight the not so great teen mom stereotype everyday as I’m sure most of you do too. I see many moms out there partying instead of staying home with their children and I want to beat those odds by making something of myself not only for me but for my daughter too.

And finally, what’s your writing/blogging history and style? I’m honestly not sure how or what I’m going to say. I’m just going to go with the flow and write things from the heart that I feel have meaning to them. Some may be sad, funny, serious, who knows what I have in store for you to read!

The Blogging Mommy is Kayla

Her Kiddos are Jordan Kurtis & Miley Ashley

Her location is Moncton,NB

How old are you now and how old are your munchkins?

I am 22, Jordan is 5 and Miley is 5months 🙂

If you could describe your child in 3 words what would they be?

Jordan is Smart, Funny, Loving
Miley is Beautiful, cuddly, Loving

What’s an average day like for you these days?

Depends on the weather, Miley can’t use sunscrean yet so we can’t go outside if its too hot which it has been so during the day we usually just chill out watching cartoons, crafts,go shopping, play games, then after Ryan goes to work at 4 we make dinner, eat, and by 6 – 6:30 when it starts to cool down Miley and I sit on the step while Jordy plays at the park in front of the house with a couple little girls who live down the street or if its shady enough I bring Miley to the park too and put her on the swing. Then we come inside, kids get a bath and we watch a movie or something on t.v. and go to sleep until Ryan gets off work and then I wake up again and watch t.v. with him for a bit, then go back to bed.

If you had a day all to yourself (kid free & lottery financed) how would you spend it?

Hmmm…well its been so long since I’ve been totally kid free that I dont even know what I’d do..lol..Definetly Shopping, probably go to a spa, depending on how much money I got from the lottery I would look at houses and if I did have enough to buy one I’d do that and use my shopping trip to also pick out new furniture and decorative things for the house…lol…If not I’d still probably use the shopping trip to redecorate this place..after getting new clothes for all of us and some awsome toys for the kids..lol…

What would you say your parenting style is like?

I’m not sure I really have a style. I kinda just go with the flow. I wouldn’t say I’m “strict” but definetly do not allow Jordan to do half the things the parents around here let their children do. Whatever my style is it must be working because Jordan is polite, well mannered and when it comes to the important rules he listens. He does know how to test my patience and sometimes likes to see how far he can push me but over all he’s a great kid 🙂 & I’m sure Miley will turn out just as great <3 One thing I do not believe in is beating your kids, I do spank Jordan’s bum sometimes if he’s getting really out of hand but most of the time a simple time out and explanation of what he did wrong and why he can’t do it works good for us.

What do you feel you have enough of in life? What do you want more of? Less of?

I feel just by having my two amazing children that I have everything anyone could ask for. I would love for Ryan to spend less time sleeping and more time with the family. I’d also love to have our own house or at least a place in a different neighborhood but as long as I have my children,Ryan, & my family I’m happy 🙂

How “blended” is your family? Are you still with the dad of your kids? Who has whose last name?

I am not with Jordan’s bio-dad. Since he wasnt around for my pregnancy or the first year and a half of Jordan’s life (besides the birth and maybe 10minutes when he was 2 days old) Jordan has MY last name. I am with Ryan (Miley’s dad) and Miley has his last name. Sometimes I feel bad for Jordan because if Ryan and I get married in the future Jordan will be the only one withought his last name..BUT Jordan thinks its cool that he has the same last name as my brother so I dont think he would care..lol..

What are some of your pet peeves?

hmmm… being interupted while I’m talking, parents who don’t put their children first, when parents let their children run around unsupervised, people who are rude to the elderly & also the elderly who think they can be rude to younger people just because they are old, when adults can’t clean up after themselves and leave nasty messes all over the place right after I’ve cleaned (*cough* Ryan *cough* lol), when people walk all over my house with their shoes on (unless its for a good reason like moving something into the house or out of the house), people who dont have common curtesy, people who stand in the middle of the aisle talking while I’m trying to shop..lol..& I could probably go on but I’ll stop here..lol

What are the most unique things about yourself?

I can do a bendy thing with my fingers that freaks most people out..lol…I’m so complicated sometimes I confuse myself…I’m left handed but can only use scissors with my right hand & I can also write with my right hand (if I go slow almost as good as with my left)…and I can pick things up with my feet..lol…

And finally, what’s your writing/blogging style?

This is my first blog so I’m not sure yet..lol…
