Part of the fun of welcoming a new baby into the house is getting some cool new baby gear! We've been browsing for a while and comparing pros and cons of differnt products (sometimes we've had tough choices to make in choosing our favourites!). But we've finally settled on a few top picks that we think will be best for us and for baby. See below for pictures of the major items we've already bought or that we're planning on buying (click on the name to read the product description):

I also started a checklist a while ago so we make sure we have everything by the time baby arrives! If we're forgetting anything (e.g. if you think of something that really came in handy when you had a new baby that we don't have down on our list), please let us know...

Baby Needs Checklist

Playard

We got Avery's playard at the end of August after having our eye on it for a very long time (would you believe two years?!). It has all sorts of very cool features! Thanks to "Papa Len" and "Grandma Jo" for this baby gift (they live overseas so just sent us shopping for something we needed!) - we will be filling it with diapers as the other part of your gift.

Here's the pic of the playard when we were setting it up in our family room to test it out. You can also see a picture of it set up in our bedroom on the Baby's Room page. Click on the catalogue photo or link to see a description of all the features.

Carseat

We tested out this carseat during the summer and it seems to suit us best in terms of how it can be carried, etc.! We actually found the Evenflo carseats to be less convenient with how they click into the base, and how the handles are shaped - this Graco carseat was a better choice. So when Sears had their "Baby Days" sale in October and the carseat was $20 off, we went for it! Ours is actually navy blue instead of gray, though (see 2nd picture below).

Crib

Usually the crib is one of the first purchases new parents make for the nursery, but for us it ended up being a last-minute buy in November. We had to visit 3 stores to find it (not an easy task at 8 months pregnant!), but were so happy to find this one at Toys R Us. Our is in an all-white finish though (see 2nd pic), which matches Avery's nursery better than the natural finish in the catalogue picture.

Swing

We chose this swing in the summertime as a perfect choice because it was portable (has little handles) and has an open-top. Then in September, we were actually lent a realy nice cradle-swing from Paul's cousin - it is a Frisher Price model and has a sideways rocking option as well as back-and-forth rocking! We may still get this little portable swing though for upstairs (our room and Avery's room) and downstairs in the basement, since the swing we have now is too large to carry anywhere and doesn't fit anywhere except the family room.
