Life:
Wow, I am starting to actually feel pregnant, what a joy! :) Despite all the ups and downs, it's a really
happy feeling to know that I am healthy - that we got pregnant without any problems in the first place,
that our pregnancy is going well, etc! I just feel so blessed that I'll have another little one in my
family soon! :)
The highlight this week was of course the ultrasound!!! (you can go see the picture on the Pics page)
We got to see the tiny little heartbeat, going SOO fast! It was beating 230 or so beats per minute, can you
believe it? We were so amazed! We didn't really get to see much of our little bean-sized baby, but we got to
see what looks like the head and what looks like the feet. I'm sure the ultrasound at 20 weeks will be much clearer!
This time though, it was enough to confirm that our baby was doing just fine! which she/he totally was! Heart beat
was right on track, and size was too! 11 mm was pretty bang on for that day. My duedate stayed the same too - still

Emotional:
Feeling a little teary-eyed, but nothing too extreme, which is good. Just a little hormonal and irritated,
but that may be partially due to the restricted coffee intake! lol! I think this is one pregnancy symptom
I don't remember feeling too much until about the 2nd trimester. Starting to get a few cravings though! lol!
White hot chocolate at Second Cup is calling my name!!! ;) I wish there were more nearby, but I guess I'm lucky
I have to drive out to Orleans or elsewhere to get one, because it keeps me from going too often. I've also been
craving yogurt a lot, which is great because I find it helps my morning sickness. Same thing with cereal, especially
Special K. Having a lot of aversions too... some smells I just cannot deal with, like the spaghetti pot after dinner
and weird stuff like that! Oh well, I'm adjusting to my "preggo spidey sense" as I call it. ;)
Physical:
Blech! I don't understand why being sick to your stomach is a side effect of pregnancy! I mean really, doesn't it
seem totally counter-intuitive? You need to keep all these nutrients down for the sake of your baby's growth, and
yet it's a struggle to keep them in your stomach! This week has been a bad one- several mornings of struggling
for half the day to keep the food down, and the remainder of the mornings unsuccessful attemps to do so!
Another very noticeable sign is my growing belly!!!! We took our first belly pictures this week, and I feel
like I am already noticeably pregnant! I mean, not to just anyone, but to people who know what my belly used
to look like just a few months ago. I weighed myself when I went for a swim on campus, and I am 10 lbs heavier than
I was at the beginning of the summer going for a swim on campus (same scale). I think I can attribute
about 5 lbs of that to summer holidays, not working out much at all in August, etc. So I figure I have gained
5 lbs so far in this pregnancy.
As a result of my belly, I broke out the maternity clothes this week! My pants were feeling way too tight and
uncomfortable, even my favourite jeans. I probably *could* have kept wearing them, but having a somewhat
uncomfortable pressing on your belly when you're trying not to be sick is not a good thing! So panel pans
and overalls it is! At least I don't need my maternity overalls yet! My regular overalls will probably fit
for another month or so, I just don't want to wear them every day! ;)
Another result of my little baby belly is that we'll be telling our family sooner than planned. We were going to
try to wait it out until after the 1st trimester was over (so around Paul's birthday or maybe Harmony's
birthday), but instead we'll be telling our families when we see them at Thanksgiving! Hopefully they will
take it well and be happy for us. We are trying to think of cute ways to tell them too - we already have
this cute little magnet for Paul's mother that says "God couldn't be everywhere so He made Grandmothers", so
I think she'll really like that. :) We were thinking getting/making Harmony a little "I'm the big sister"
shirt might also be cute (and fun for her to get the attention!)...
I'll write in my next journal entry about how telling the family goes!
